Onitsuka Tiger’s SS23 Collection is All About Japanese Minimalism

Onitsuka Tiger SS2023 Collection

The Onitsuka Tiger SS2023 Collection by Creative Director Andrea Pompilio is a spectacular display of Japanese minimalism and modern design. The latest lineup fuses innovative forms with heritage to create a sophisticated collection by stripping away the extraneous.

This aesthetic continues through the campaign visuals featuring juxtaposed elements such as silhouettes, space, sky, and building colours. In order to focus on the collection’s details, form, and artistic minimalism, the background design is simple. The contrast between the sky and a massive ball produced a stunning installation-like effect, connecting models and art.

Design Details Define How Onitsuka Tiger is Elevating Simple Garments

The attention to detail is also what distinguishes the Onitsuka Tiger SS2023 Collection. Simple garments were transformed into design objects with a flowing silhouette, evoking the brand’s heritage. From the embroidered logo with a zigzag stitch to the decorative seams on the hems, each piece of clothing is meticulously handcrafted in Japan.

Pompilio also redefined the silhouette with unexpected three-dimensional volume, such as drawstrings on the back of the looks. Adding to the collection are dresses that can be taken apart and jackets with capes borrowed from trench coats. The collection also introduced little dresses with rucksack pockets incorporated on the back.

The colour palette for the collection is predominantly black and white, with occasional pops of the brand’s signature yellow and shiso green. The TIRRACK model updates the iconic SERRANOâ„¢ shoes with boldly printed graphic motifs reminiscent of tiger scratches.

Meanwhile, the Japanese setta-inspired leather flip-flops are handcrafted in Japan. The SCLAWâ„¢ and SCLAWâ„¢ MT models have nimble yet high-performance details. Also, added to the collection is a new reversible baseball cap with traditional sun shields and a double brim that can be worn on either side. Embroidered bags with the logo and Claw Stripes are available in three sizes including a micro size.

Bang & Olufsen, a world-renowned audio equipment manufacturer from Denmark, collaborated on the most recent presentation. The two companies also collaborated once more to release limited-edition earphones in select countries. The Onitsuka Tiger SS2023 Collection, which offers a stunning expression of beauty through subtractive aesthetics and a celebration of Japanese heritage and innovation, is now available in-store and online.
